The Return of the Laughing Gulls – Day 86

I saw my very first Laughing Gull of the season yesterday at Wychmere Harbor.

We hung out together for a while; me in my car, him on a piling, waiting and hoping to see an Osprey return to one of the harbor nests.

I LOVE the black masks of these gulls, the red bills, and those white markings above and below the eye that make them look even more expressive than they already do.

And like I said, we were waiting for a glimpse of our first Osprey of the season.

We waited…

And we waited.

Until…

Someone got tired. 😉

Then again, being a new arrival himself, he deserves some rest!  😉

Spring Glory, Ospreys Return- Day 85

At long last…

O-S-P-R-E-Y!!!!

And to think I almost didn’t even go looking for them today; it had turned so gray and raw, no fun to be outside.

Am I ever glad, I did!  😉

More images to come…  ❤

Two Stunning Views: Race Point Light and a Sleepy Lady Eider – Day 83

My focus of this past week’s trip to PTown was, indeed, the BIRDS!

But I also got to see some truly beautiful spots, with great views.

Like the view of Race Point Lighthouse from Herring Cove Beach, something I had never seen before awaaay across the water.

The air smelled SO good out there on the water, and the sea looked so blue-blue.

Last night I posted a photo of a stunning Eider drake at MacMillan Wharf.

And here, tonight, is one of the Lady Eiders I met there, too.

She was especially kind to give me a really close look at her gorgeous feathers, so many different layers of black, white and rich reddish-brown.

I thought she looked a bit on the sleepy side, almost as if the sea was gently rocking her to sleep.

It made me wish I could join her…  😉

Can you see now, why I believe that the Ladies are every bit as gorgeous as the Gents??  ❤

Eider Drake of PTown, Man of Mystery – Day 82

A special moment shared with a very special Eider drake… on a recent trip to MacMillan Wharf in PTown.

I could have stayed there all day, but was on a time crunch.

I had other images that showed this charming fellow’s eye more clearly, but I loved this one for that “air of mystery”…

It was Ladies’ Day in the Sun – Day 79

I know everyone always gets totally bedazzled when they see the male Red-breasted Mergansers.

And they are, indeed, handsome devils.

But.

The other day at the Chatham Fish Pier, it was all about the LADIES!

Sailing along on the choppy sea, they were coiffed to perfection.

And dive after dive, their feathers held up, beautifully.

I think they appreciated my oooh’s and my aahhhh’s, as they so often feel overshadowed by their handsome male counterparts.

And as I walked away I couldn’t help wondering what kind of gel they used, the hold in all that wind and chop — was simply AMAZING!  😉

You GO girls!
