Marmee’s Home

Sometimes it’s hard to believe that Marmee was ever not a part of our family and our home.

We found her at the local rescue. They had her isolated for over a long time due to recurrent bouts of the sniffles, so no one had really gotten a chance to meet her.

This was the photo I first saw of her online.

She was looking straight at me, and I fell in love with her.

When we met her, she hopped up on my lap and literally tried to crawl inside my stomach like a baby kangaroo.

But when we brought her home, it took a long while for Marmee to learn to trust us, to relax.

The steps were small, but little by little she came to know that we were her family. You could almost see her beginning to realize that she didn’t need to be scared anymore. That she could let go of the bad memories, let in the good ones.

That this was the family she had always wanted and longed for.

The family that was going to allow her to be her sweet, loving self.

The family that was going to love her right back.

Yes indeed, our sweet girl is home. And she knows that Monday, and every day, is Marmee day!

Maggie Mae

Six years ago today, we said goodbye to our Maggie Mae.

Blog-MaggieMae1003

I still have not been able to write about this sweet girl, around whom our lives orbited for nearly 15 years.

She was the inspiration and the soul of my hat business. Ever present, all-knowing.

At once Queen and prankster…

The very best nap partner you could ever want…

She was my heart, and she filled our lives with a spirit and personality that was bigger than life.

And she will be with me, for always always…

We miss you, Maggie Mae.

Different Strokes

I named my hat company for the sweetest tabby named Maggie Mae.

Blog-MaggieMae1005

She was the Queen. Incredibly self-assured, and I adored her.

When you petted Maggie, a firm pet was better than a soft one most days. I think the softer rubs “tickled” her.

And she always let you know when it was time to stop.

Trust me, she let you know!

Blog-MaggieMae1006

When we lost Maggie and Marmee came to us, I had to learn a whole new way of connecting with her.

To my surprise, I discovered that what Marmee loved best were the soft, gentle rubs.

And I mean THE softest rubs, and they never seem to tickle!

And like Maggie before her, she always lets you know when she’s happy.

In my lifetime I have been blessed with two amazing girls.

My Maggie…

And my Marmee…

Each one so unique, her very own fur-person.

I could not possibly love them both more than I do. It’s been a gift to be able to give them whatever they need to be happy.

Stick Together and Keep Cool

How do you and YOUR family keep cool during the “dog days of summer”?

Looks like these little sparrows have figured out what it takes to get thru’ the summer heat wave.

With a little team work, they help each other find all the best puddles…

Blog-ForestBeachLoop394

And have a little fun in the process!

Blog-ForestBeachLoop403

Don’t forget to check on those you love during the heat, especially our elderly, the critters and the kids.

And keep cool everybody!  🙂
