One of the Fabulous Baker Boys of Chatham

Well you’ll never guess who I ran across the other day, but Bob Baker!

Bob was on his way to work at Baker’s Hardware, a family-owned business located on Main Street in South Chatham.

Bob’s late father, Cyrus Baker, founded the store in 1950. One of the few true combination hardware-general stores left here on the Cape, they sell everything from Balsa wood glider planes and beach toys to housewares and tennis balls!

It’s always great to see Bob on one of my walks. He’s just one of those people who’s always ready with a smile and a kind word.

It was great to chat with him for a bit, to wish him a “Happy Fourth”…

And to hear the sweet sound of his spiffy Model A in the quiet early morning as she rolled out on the road and on up the street.

Seeing antique trucks like Bob’s is such a nice reminder that there are so many things from the past…

That some of us – thankfully – still want to keep right here with us in the present and bring along with us into the future.

I’ll be checking in again with Bob throughout the summer to see how it’s going —

And to get some more photos of that fabulous Model A of his, she’s a real Beauty!  😉

Happy Fourth everybody!
